Welcome to the official website of the Dutch Postgraduate School for Art History (known as OSK)!

The OSK is a national organization, founded in 1995, which connects several important institutes in the field of art and architectural historical research in the Netherlands. These institutes comprise the departments of art history and architectural history of seven Dutch universities:

Delft University of Technology

Leiden University

Radboud University Nijmegen

University of Groningen

University of Amsterdam

Utrecht University

VU University of Amsterdam

They are joined by six important sister institutes:

The New Institute, Rotterdam

Netherlands Institute for Art History (RKD), The Hague
Rijksdienst voor het Cultureel Erfgoed (National Association for Cultural Heritage)

Rijksmuseum Amsterdam

Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam

Van Gogh Museum, Amsterdam

In cooperation with these institutes, the OSK aims to maintain and support a high level of specialized research in the field of art history by offering education and regularly organizing meetings for her members. The education program is directed towards research master students and PhD students working on a doctoral thesis. Tailored courses are offered each year to cater to the needs of both groups, in order to help them improve their skills as (future) researchers. Apart from the education program, six different sections are active within the OSK, who each focus on a specific field within art historical research: Architecture and Urban Planning; Fine Arts until 1850; Historic Interior and Decorative Arts; Italian Art studies; Modern and Contemporary Art; Workshop Practice and History of Art Production. Each section organizes its own meetings and events to advance innovation and collaboration in research.

You will find more information on the activities and various organs of the OSK on this website. For further questions, please turn to the OSK secretary:
