OSK invites PhD candidates to participate in the PhD-seminar Paradigms in Art- and Architectural History.
The seminar takes place on two Mondays, the 18th and the 25th of November, from 11.00 until 18.00. The seminar will be chaired by prof.dr. Kitty Zijlmans (professor Modern and Contemporary Art, Leiden University) and dr. Freek Schmidt (assistant professor History and Theory of Architecture, VU University Amsterdam). Venue is VU University, within walking distance from train station Amsterdam Zuid.
Particularly intended for PhD-students in Art and Architectural History, the seminar will analyze and discuss paradigms and structures in art and architectural historical research. The main question under examination will be: how does one define his/her field of research? And which rationales constitute the chosen demarcation? The two-day seminar will provide an in-depth discussion of art historical methodologies, approached from current status quaestionis. We aim to offer a course which will help structure any art/architectural historical PhD-thesis. Participants are asked to prepare a short bibliography, to participate in the discussions and to give a short presentation of their research on the second day, related to the main question of the seminar and the presentations by the professors on the first day.
As national organization, the OSK aims to maintain and support a high level of specialized research in the field of art and architectural history. The education program is directed towards PhD candidates working on a doctoral thesis. The OSK offers several courses and other activities that will help PhD candidates to attain the skills and experience required to successfully conduct their research and function within the academic environment.
We would like to ask you to indicate before September 29th whether you will participate in this seminar. If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact the OSK secretary.
